Getting back to sewing

I'm beginning to sew again after many years of working, raising children, etc. I took a beginner class to learn what's new in the sewing world. We made a scrunchy and a pillow. I got to try sewing on a Bernina 215B and she was truly amazing, like driving a Cadillac I guess!! Very nice machine.

My second class was with a friend who is just beginning to sew. We cut out our material before class and hauled our machines into the shop for a class where we made beach tote bags. They turned out adorable. We had a day of sewing and chatting that was "sew" much fun!! I finished my project in class and was really pleased with the result.

For the second class, I hauled a Singer 9420 we found at an auction for $2.00!! What a lovely machine she is. I tried her out before the class to get familiar and see if she would serve for the class I was about to attend. We needed to use a walking foot, which I had. I just needed to find a machine that it would fit and it fit the 9420. She performed well under test conditions of mending a few items, and winding a bobbin, so off we went to class. She was delightful. She sewed the whole project, and handled several thicknesses of vinyl as well as quilt batting, and fabric for the project. I was very impressed with my auction machine. She was lovely.

The class instructor commented that the 9420 is one of Singer's better machines and she (the machine) certainly lived up to that. I'm in love with her and she has a permanent home in my growing collection of sewing machines!!

What's next? I have added my name to a waiting list for a beginner's quilting project. I'm very excited. I have been wanting to learn to quilt for a long time. As soon as enough participants sign up, we're off to sewing school again!!!
